Abstract : Parametric amplification in optical fibers has been the subject of extensive investigation for almost 30 years now, however only recently have practical applications started to emerge. These include: optical metrology, ultra-high speed optical sampling, optical amplification, and widely tunable parametric sources. In this talk I will outline several aspects of optical parametric amplification currently under investigation at Auckland including: widely tunable fiber parametric oscillators, the combined interaction of parametric gain and Raman scattering, and parametric amplification using incoherent pumps.
